Learn English with EnglishClass101.com! What’s your New Year’s Resolution? I’ll bet I can guess what it is in less than a minute. If you’re a man, it’s either spend more time with your family and friends, quit smoking, quit drinking, or get out of debt. If you’re a woman, then I’ll bet it’s either get going on an exercise routine, lose weight, learn something new, or get organized. How did I do? Do you know which resolutions are the most difficult to achieve? Any of them that require you to give up something you really like. Chocolate (any type, ice cream, candy, or cake) is possibly the single item most responsible for the destruction of new year’s resolutions in all the world. And a close second is probably potato chips. God help us all; they’ve invented chocolate-covered potato chips. Of course, the most often cited, but un-indicted, co-conspirator is the spouse. They’ll get you every time.

Learn English with EnglishClass101.com! Sports and college life make very special memories. Those we meet at college often become life-long friends. We share with them the joys of sports events win or lose. Why are those moments so vivid in our memories? Why do we not recall with perfect clarity that esoteric theorem our math professor solved in class? Maybe it’s the sharing that makes the memory full and sharp. Can that be? Was the math theorem a shared memory. I don’t think so. The continual human contact during shared moments is possibly what makes the memory indelible. Your college friends may go their separate ways, but the shared memories of good times and bad keep them close for a long, long time.

Learn English with EnglishClass101.com! Ah, sometimes the trials and tribulations of childhood never quite leave us. Don’t we all remember those times in grade school when we discovered some people just didn’t like us? In many places, the angst of Valentine’s Day rituals are the most painfully memorable. The children all brought little stacks of cards to give to others, and the classroom rituals surrounding the distribution of the cards made everything more painful. Everything conspired to make comparisons between stacks of received cards inevitable. Whoever got the most cards was envied and admired. Whoever got the fewest was shamed and ridiculed. It just wasn’t fair. Fortunately, many mothers saw this tragedy coming and took measures to reduce the suffering of the painfully shy and socially inept. Where would we be without mothers? Much worse off, I’m sure.
Learning English with EnglishClass101.com is the most fun and effective way to learn English! This English Audio Blog recounts the childhood anguish of Valentine’s Day for those who were not the most popular or prettiest or handsomest. But it is another one of those times when mothers come to the rescue and give us the wherewithal to weather the pain and give us the understanding to avoid more of the same in our adulthoods. You just can’t beat moms. Join us at EnglishClass101.com and see what you’ve been missing! Learn English with EnglishClass101.com! The tribulations of winter couture affect all of us who live in the North. Sweaters, gloves, hats, boots, even long underwear has us feeling like over-stuffed sausages waddling around inside the world’s largest refrigerator-freezer. We hurry from warm little houses to freezing cold cars that quickly become over-heated. Then we hurry from our hot cars through the freezing cold to other buildings that could be over-heated or too cold; we never know which. That’s if we’re lucky. If not, things go really wrong and our cars refuse to cooperate and strand us in the frigid weather. We long for warmer weather every time we’re reminded that our feet are cold and not embraced by warm, soft sand. The long, cold slog from Autumn to Spring seems interminable and unbearable, but in the end, we survive, and Spring brings green warmth to the Earth and bright smiles to our faces.
Learning English with EnglishClass101.com is the most fun and effective way to learn English! This English Audio Blog reminisces about the cold time between the equinoxes and the trials of moving about in winter weather. Learn English with EnglishClass101.com! Was it Goose Creek or Duck River? A life time of memories crowd one another and sometimes get confused. Did we roast marshmallows in Montana or Mississippi? Family and good friends always bring out the memories in us, and it’s the shared memories and shared recounting that sharpens our recall or adds another error to the accumulation of mistakes in our minds. But does it really matter? So what if it was Goose Creek or Duck River? What does it matter if the dog tackled a skunk in California or Connecticut? It’s the shared warmth of collective memory that heats the cockles of our hearts. It’s the re-telling of endearing stories, sometimes for new ears, both young and old, that keeps the stories alive and vibrant for us.
