Learn English with EnglishClass101.com! You’ve just completed a full day of meetings with your English colleagues at the New York office. You’re now about to have dinner with them, and you’re ready to sit back and relax. But wait—not so quick! It seems your first day of work in America has not quite come to an end… “Good work today, everyone!” says your new boss in English. He introduces you to the group once again in English as everyone applauds. However, as he continues you begin to get a little nervous. Your boss makes an unusual request of you in English, “Could you introduce yourself and make a toast?” You almost choke on your beer. “Huh? You mean in English?” You feel yourself start to panic. “Of course in English!” your boss replies. You try to run every English phrase you have learned through your head in the next five seconds. Finally, you take a deep breath and address the group in English, “Good evening, everyone. Nice to meet you. I’m from Italy and I understand a little English. But I’m not good at it yet. I am good at Italian though.” You wince. Why in the world did you say THAT?? Fortunately, you hear laughter rather than an awkward silence, and you start to relax. “I look forward to working with you all. Cheers!”
