In today's lesson, we'll cover renting a cell phone, an indispensable tool for the modern day traveler! In the States, you can rent a phone at several locations. With the number of public phones decreasing due to the lack of use, renting a cell phone is becoming an indispensable part of one's travels.
In English you would say, I would like to rent a cell phone. Let's break that down. Once again we have the I would like to make polite requests. And then the action you want to do, to rent and then the thing you want to rent, a cell phone.
Currently, there may be instances when you need to rent more than one phone. For instance, you may want a phone for each member of the family. In this case, you would add the number of phones you want and change the noun ending to plural
I would like to rent two phones or I would like to rent three phones
Let's pretend that you are from Greece. Two important questions related to your plan are Are incoming calls free? and How much are calls to Greece?
Are incoming calls free? Since it's a question you want to start off with the verb, are and then the thing you're asking about, incoming calls and then the word free.
The other thing you will want to know is how much it costs for you to call home. In this case we're using Greece as an example, so that would be How much to ask for the rate, are calls to Greece which is the location.
In the case of England, just replace the country name. How much are calls to England?
Okay, now to close out today's lesson, we'd like you to practice what you've just learned. I'll say the phrase or sentence, and why don't you try saying it out loud? Good luck everybody!
- I would like to rent a cell phone.
- I would like to rent two phones.
- How much are calls to Greece?
All right, that's going to do it for today! See you all soon!
