“What's the weather like?” in English.
In this lesson, you'll learn how to respond to the common question “What's the weather like?”
Eric: “What's the weather like?”
Becky: The first word in the question is
Eric: “What’s”
Becky: the contraction of "what is."
Eric: (Slow, by syllable) “What’s”
Becky: Listen again and repeat.
Eric: “What’s”
{Pause}
Becky: This pattern of first introducing a word at natural speed, providing the translation, breaking it down, and then giving it again at natural speed will be repeated throughout the series. Try to speak aloud as often as possible. The next word in the question is
Eric: “the”
Becky: This is the definite article.
Eric: (Slow, by syllable) “the”
Becky: Now repeat.
Eric: “the”

Becky: Listen to the first two words of the question and repeat.
Eric: “What’s the”

Becky: And after that is

Becky: It mostly stays the same, just replace “sunny” with “cloudy.” Now try. Say “It's cloudy.”

Becky: Now it's time for a quiz. Imagine you are visiting the United States and someone asks you about the weather. You want to say it's sunny. How would you answer?

Becky: Now you want to say it's cloudy. Respond to the question.
Eric: What's the weather like? (five seconds) “It's cloudy.”
Becky: You want to say it's rainy. Answer the speaker's question.

Becky: You want to say it's cold. What would you say?

Becky: You want to ask someone what the weather is like. Ask the question.
