Hi, everyone. My name is Bridget and welcome to today's lesson. Our topic for this lesson is, “5 Major Cities in the United States.”
New York. New York, New York. ♪ New York. New York, New York. ♪ New York, New York City, NYC, the 212, that's where I'm living. New York City, my personal favorite. The city in which I live, the city that never sleeps. It's also known as “The Big Apple.” New York. New York City. Here we have the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, we have Central Park, we've got great hotdogs, great pizza, the Statue of Liberty, the Yankees. New York is the place where everything's happening. You can find every language spoken here, you can find every type of museum, arts and culture scene is thriving here, there's always something to do. It's a great place to visit, it's a great place to work, it's a lot of fun. The subway sucks though. Okay, I take it back. The subway doesn't suck.
Chicago. Also known as the “Windy City”, Chicago is known for having had lots of gangsters in the 1930s. One of the most famous gangsters from Chicago was Al Capone. Maybe you've heard of Al Capone. Chicago is known for lots of things, one of my favorite things though is deep-dish pizza, Chicago style pizza, which is very, very thick. Can the graphics people come up with a deep-dish pizza? It looks different from New York pizza. I personally prefer New York style pizza. We have the best pizza. Chicago is in the State of Illinois.
Los Angeles. Los Angeles, also known as LA. Los Angeles is a city in California that is very well known for one thing, which is Hollywood. Lots of celebrities live in Los Angeles. They're all living in LA, living the lifestyles of the rich and the famous. Los Angeles is a great place to visit, not just because of Hollywood and all the glamour and famous people, but because Los Angeles is actually a very diverse place. There are different neighborhoods that are known for different things, different food scenes, different art scenes. It's a really great place to explore. But you should always remember, that you need to have a car in Los Angeles because you have to drive everywhere and the traffic is terrible.
Atlanta. Atlanta is a city in Georgia, the State of Georgia. “Did you hear about that blizzard in Atlanta?” Atlanta is a very famous city in the United States. Atlanta has the world's busiest airport. Atlanta actually, weirdly enough, has an up-and-coming movie scene. I guess the taxes are low, the incentives are high to be filming there, so they've got a booming entertainment industry business. But most people go to Atlanta for the food, for the nightlife and just to explore.
New Orleans. New Orleans is a city in Louisiana. You can pronounce it New Orleans, you can say New Orleans. There are different ways to pronounce it. I think the most common thing you hear is New Orleans. I grew up saying New Orleans, which is incorrect. New Orleans, it's the birthplace of jazz. New Orleans has a ton of culture. They love music, they love good food, they have creole food, creole influence and they celebrate Mardi Gras. They have huge Mardi Gras parades and festivities. It's a very, very fun city to visit and one of the most famous in the United States.
