Today, we will take a look at a very useful phrase, I don't understand. It is very useful because many times you won't immediately understand what people are saying to you.
Let's break this phrase down. I is the person, in this case, yourself, don't is a contraction of do+not, and finally we have understand. Altogether, we have I don't understand.
Another way to express that you don't understand is asking someone what does this mean? This phrase comes in handy for many things, so it's a good one to remember. For example, if you get fined for something, you can ask the police officer, I don't understand, what does this mean? Chances that you get out of paying the fine are slim, but at least you've tried.
Okay, now to close out today's lesson, we'd like you to practice what you've just learned. I'll say the phrase or sentence, and why don't you try saying it out loud? Good luck everybody!
- I don't understand.
- What does this mean?
All right, that's going to do it for today! See you all soon!
