American president George Washington was born February 22, 1732 in the colony of Virginia, British America. Washington was commander of America's Continental Army during the Revolutionary war. He was elected the first president of the United States, taking his oath of office on the balcony of Federal Hall on Wall Street in New York on April 30, 1789. Washington died December 14, 1799.
