Lesson Transcript

If you ever have aspirations of catching a glimpse of royalty, then a trip to Buckingham Palace should be right up your alley. If it's a dream to have tea with the Queen, or even sneak a peek of Prince Charles shaving in the reflection of a bathroom window, then bring your binoculars, a packet of crisps, and a whole lot of patience. You will need perseverance, luck, and a lot of free time of your hands. Britain and her Queen are intrinsically linked in the minds of her subjects, as well as in the world's view of the country as a whole. She is printed on our money, in varying degrees of age from youthful beauty to regal senior citizen splendour, and can be found as the figurehead for all major celebrations and occasions. The Queen turned 87 in 2013, and visitors still flock to her official London residence to bask in the presence of this national treasure. With 775 rooms, Buckingham Palace has remained the official London residence of Britain's sovereigns since 1837. Each year, more than 50,000 people are invited to the palace to attend dinners, receptions, lunches, banquets, and Royal Garden Parties. If you are lucky enough to make the cut, you can be guaranteed an evening you will never forget, and an audience with Her Majesty should leave you feeling royally flushed.
