| Keith: Hi, I’m Keith. |
| Sadia: Hey, and I’m Sadia. So I was just thinking the other day—I think we might work in a paperless office. We might be eco-friendly! |
| Keith: Yeah! I guess we do! We’re green! |
| Sadia: I mean, our printer gets used once every couple of weeks, but other than that, all of our work is done on our computers, so no paper is really necessary! |
| Keith: In one of our previous lessons, we told our listeners about “going green.” |
| Sadia: That’s right. |
| Keith: So, a lot of offices are going green by becoming paperless offices— |
| Sadia: by reducing their use of paper, or by getting rid of paper altogether! |
| Keith: Yeah, in a paperless office, everything—and we mean EVERYTHING—is done by computer. From clocking in—or, signing in for the day—to communicating. |
| Sadia: It’s eco-friendly, yes, but it’s also a great way to save a little cash! |
| Keith: No paper, but also no filing cabinets, less shelving. And now, with people telecommuting— |
| Sadia: We should explain! |
| Keith: So, to telecommute is to work from home. |
| Sadia: I think I kind of like the idea of a paperless office even more! |
| Keith: Working in your pajamas... |
| Sadia: Yeah, I think this idea maybe started probably in the ’80s or something. People would, I think, work at their homes or at some other location, and they would call in to their office and kind of get updated and perhaps have a meeting, but today telecommuting is different because everything is done on the Internet, right? |
| Keith: That’s right, and even some companies, they have workers but no office, so a lot of people, they just work from home, they talk to each other over theI internet through email, through chatting... |
| Sadia: Skype... |
| Keith: Skype, as well, and they create a company. |
| Sadia: Yeah. |
