Michael: Must-Know English Social Media Phrases Season 1. Lesson 13 - A Pregnancy Announcement.
Michael: Hi everyone, I'm Michael.
Alisha: And I'm Alisha.
Michael: In this lesson, you'll learn how to post and leave comments in English about having a baby. Chris finds out he and his wife are going to have a baby, posts an image of it, and leaves this comment:
Alisha: "OMG! I just found out that I'm going to be a dad!"
Michael: Listen to a reading of the post and the comments that follow.
DIALOGUE
(clicking sound)
Chris: "OMG! I just found out that I'm going to be a dad!"
(clicking sound)
Jennifer: "We don't know if it's a boy or girl yet."
Gloria: "Have you thought about names yet?"
Howard: "Twins?"
Alex: "Wait until you buy a stroller, they're so damn expensive!"

Michael: Listen again to Chris's post.
Alisha: (SLOW) "OMG! I just found out that I'm going to be a dad!"
Alisha: (Regular) "OMG! I just found out that I'm going to be a dad!"
Michael: Let's break this down.
Alisha: First is the expression "OMG!"
Michael: "OMG" is an initialism mostly used to express shock or amazement, it means "Oh My God!" Listen again.
Alisha: (SLOW) "OMG!" (REGULAR) "OMG!"
Michael: Then comes the phrase...
Alisha: "I just found out that I'm going to be a dad!"
Michael: "I just found out..." is a good way to start a sentence when proclaiming some news. Listen again.
Alisha: (SLOW) "I just found out that I'm going to be a dad!" (REGULAR) "I just found out that I'm going to be a dad!"
Michael: All together...
Alisha: "OMG! I just found out that I'm going to be a dad!"

Alisha: "We don't know if it's a boy or girl yet."
Michael: Use this expression to show you are unsure of the sex of the baby.
Michael: His neighbor, Gloria, says...
Alisha: (SLOW) "Have you thought about names yet?" (REGULAR) "Have you thought about names yet?"
[Pause]
Alisha: "Have you thought about names yet?"
Michael: Use this expression to show you are feeling warm-hearted and curious.
Michael: His supervisor, Howard, says...
Alisha: (SLOW) "Twins?" (REGULAR) "Twins?"
[Pause]
Alisha: "Twins?"
Michael: Use this expression to be humorous.
Michael: His nephew, Alex, says...
Alisha: (SLOW) "Wait until you buy a stroller, they're so damn expensive!" (REGULAR) "Wait until you buy a stroller, they're so damn expensive!"
[Pause]
Alisha: "Wait until you buy a stroller, they're so damn expensive!"
Michael: Use this expression to show you are being cynical about the price of strollers.
