INTRODUCTION
Michael: Must-Know English Social Media Phrases Season 1. Lesson 4 - Sharing Music or Videos
Michael: Hi everyone, I'm Michael.
Alisha: And I'm Alisha.
Michael: In this lesson, you'll learn how to post and leave comments in English about sharing music or videos. Jennifer shares a song she just heard at a party, posts a video of it, and leaves this comment:
Alisha: "Can't stop listening to Rihanna's new song! Love!"
Michael: Listen to a reading of the post and the comments that follow.
DIALOGUE
(clicking sound)
[Alisha] Jennifer: "Can't stop listening to Rihanna's new song! Love!"
(clicking sound)
[Michael] Chris: "I know... I know all the lyrics by heart now, honey."
[Alisha] Gloria: "Oh, it's awesome!"
[Alisha] Wendy: "Have you heard her song 'Stay'?"
[Michael] Alex: "That song's ancient!"
POST
Michael: Listen again to Jennifer's post.
Alisha: (SLOW) "Can't stop listening to Rihanna's new song! Love!"
Alisha: (Regular) "Can't stop listening to Rihanna's new song! Love!"
Michael: Let's break this down.
Alisha: First is the expression "Can't stop listening to Rihanna's new song!"
Michael: This is a common expression on social media. It just means that the person cannot stop doing something. For example: "I can't stop eating chocolate" or "I can't stop listening to this song." Rihanna is a famous artist in America. Listen again.
Alisha: (SLOW) "Can't stop listening to Rihanna's new song!" (REGULAR) "Can't stop listening to Rihanna's new song!"
Michael: Then comes the word...
Alisha: "Love!"
Michael: "Love!" is used to express your great interest or intense affection for something. It's very similar to Facebook's "Like" button. Instead of a long sentence explaining how you like or love something, you just write "Love!" for short on social media. Listen again.
Alisha: (SLOW) "Love!" (REGULAR) "Love!"
Michael: All together...
Alisha: "Can't stop listening to Rihanna's new song! Love!"
COMMENTS
Michael: In response, Jennifer's friends leave some comments.
Michael: Her boyfriend, Chris, says...
Alisha: (SLOW) "I know... I know all the lyrics by heart now, honey." (REGULAR) "I know... I know all the lyrics by heart now, honey."
[Pause]
Alisha: "I know... I know all the lyrics by heart now, honey."
Michael: Use this expression to express a deep appreciation for something. Knowing something "by heart" means you know every part of it. You can know song lyrics, poetry, lines from a movie or a book "by heart."
Michael: Her neighbor, Gloria, says...
Alisha: (SLOW) "Oh, it's awesome!" (REGULAR) "Oh, it's awesome!"
[Pause]
Alisha: "Oh, it's awesome!"
Michael: Use this expression to show you are feeling enthusiastic about something.
Michael: Her high school friend, Wendy, says...
Alisha: (SLOW) "Have you heard her song 'Stay'? (REGULAR) "Have you heard her song 'Stay'?
[Pause]
Alisha: "Have you heard her song 'Stay'?
Michael: Use this question to show you are aware of something else created by the artist and would like to offer a suggestion.
Michael: Her nephew, Alex, says...
Alisha: (SLOW) "That song's ancient!" (REGULAR) "That song's ancient!"
[Pause]
Alisha: "That song's ancient!"
Michael: Use this expression to show that you are feeling cynical and want to undermine the person's comments about the song.

Outro

Michael: Okay, that's all for this lesson. If a friend posts something, sharing music or videos, which phrase would you use? Leave us a comment letting us know. And we'll see you next time!
Alisha: Bye!
