Lesson Transcript

Hi, everyone.
In this lesson, you'll practice your listening skills with one classic story told in two
surprising ways.
Listen carefully and tell us which version you prefer.
Let's begin.
The Country Mouse and the City Mouse 2.0: The Swap
Country Mouse was selling apples by the road.
The morning was quiet—blue sky, birdsong, and the smell of fresh grass.
A stranger stopped at their stand.
She wore a fancy jacket, sunglasses and held a tall paper cup.
"City Coffee," whispered the Country Mouse's mom.
Country Mouse looked at the cup.
"Sometimes," she said, "I do miss the city."
The stranger smiled.
"I live in the city, but I come here for peace."
"You can have the best of both—if you’re open and agile."
That evening, Country Mouse called City Mouse.
"Ever miss the country?"
"I do," said City Mouse.
"What if we shared the best of both worlds?"
So they made a plan to swap places once a month.
City Mouse would sleep under the stars.
Country Mouse would walk under neon lights.
They stayed close to their roots, while branching out.
By sharing what they had, they lived a richer life.
The Country Mouse and the City Mouse 2.0: The Escape That Followed Him
City Mouse needed a break.
He packed a bag and took the train to visit his cousin in the country.
"Fresh air, quiet nights," he said.
"This is the life."
At first, he relaxed.
He drank tea. Watched birds. Picked apples.
But then he missed his espresso.
So he opened a café.
Then he missed his bed.
So he built a luxury hotel. With a big swimming pool.
Then he missed delivery.
So he built a drone delivery service.
He missed the paved roads.
So he he paved them.
Soon, tourists came.
Then photographers. Then influencers.
The fields turned into eco-lodges.
The apple stand became a wellness center.
Country Mouse watched it all.
One morning, City Mouse said:
"Is it me, or did it used to be more peaceful around here?"
Country Mouse didn’t answer.
He just looked at the road being paved through the meadow.
Great listening!
