Lesson Transcript

In the previous lesson, we covered how to ask to get something. In this lesson, we'll introduce you to another useful phrase for asking the place where you can find what you are looking for. Today's phrase is, is there a (place) near here? First, we need a place. Let's use the word drugstore. Let's break it down by syllable - drugstore.
So, all together we say, is there a drugstore near here? Let's break it down by syllable, the whole sentence this time - is there a drugstore near here?
The first words is there starts the question. Is there. This is followed by the object a drug store which is what you're looking for in English. Next, we have near here which is your location. Let's hear it one more time - Is there a drugstore near here?
Now just to let you know, pharmacy is another word for drugstore.
To ask for a different place, we can just replace the word drugstore with any other word and the phrase works just fine. Let's imagine you need to withdraw some money from your bank account. In English, is there an ATM near here is the question to ask. The only thing that changes is the thing you are looking for, in this case ATM.Let's hear the entire phrase one more time. Is there an ATM near here?
Okay, now to close out today's lesson, we'd like you to practice what you've just learned. I'll say the phrase or sentence, and why don't you try saying it out loud? Good luck everybody!
- Is there a drugstore near here?
- Is there an ATM near here?
All right, that's going to do it for today! See you all soon!

Hi Claudio,

We would usually say "grocery store" instead of just "grocery", but that's a great example
