For this lesson, we're going to need a word, as we're going to cover How do you say so-and-so in English?
Since we can't really pick an English word in this example, let's use the Spanish word manzana.
So you would ask the question, How do you say "manzana" in English? This is of course assuming that the person you're talking to understands Spanish. How starts the question. Do you say asks the question, then you have your word, which in this case is manzana, and then finally in English.So all together once again, How do you say "manzana" in English?
Not to leave you hanging, manzana is apple.
You can of course point at a phrase and say How do you say this in English? Just substitute the word with this. So once again, that's How do you say this in English?
If you point at an object, it would be more appropriate to say, What do you call this in English? What do you call is asking for the name of the object. So once again, What do you call this in English? Remember the upward intonation.
Here are some words or phrases that might come in handy, so you won't have to ask for them.
