| I see. And why do you think you would be a good fit for this job? |
| In this dialogue, we see an example of a mixed conditional. The speaker says, "If I hadn’t taken time off from school, I would be farther in my career right now." |
| This structure is used to talk about how a past event—taking time off from school—is affecting the present situation—not being as far along in their career. |
| We use the pattern: |
| If + past perfect clause, subject + would + base verb (present) |
