A couple of years ago, I visited New York city for the first time. It is the most amazing and exiting city Iโve never visited in the United States. It is multicultural city, several languages are spoken there with a population coming from different countries, which means that immigration is a very important social aspect in this city. The only thing I dislike was the property of subway, it smells like piss and there are many rats.
Hi teacher,
In below paragraph, it is said 'on the west' and 'on the north' but why not different for 'on the east' and 'on the south'?

Second, why we are not using 'made from' in the sentence 'The vast majority of the state of New York is made up of .....' ?
Third, why not using 'named from' in 'Both the state of New York and the city of New York were named for ....' ?
Thank you

I had been in New York a years ago and I loved!
Hi Fabiano,
In this case, "taken over" means that New York was a Dutch settlement, but then it became a British settlement. The British took control of the area, or "took it over."
Hope that helps!
