| Keith: Hi, I’m Keith. |
| Sadia: Hey, and I’m Sadia. All right, Keith, so every morning I ride the train to work, and everyday I promise myself that I'll get a little extra sleep on the way |
| into the office, but it never works out that way. |
| Keith: Why not? What happens? |
| Sadia: Can you guess what I do instead of sleep, Keith? |
| Keith: Hmm, I don't know-- read? |
| Sadia: No. Like all the other commuters-- people on their |
| way to their offices-- I find myself on my Crackberry |
| each and every day! |
| Keith: Crackberry? I thought the word was Blackberry! |
| Sadia: It is Blackberry, but so strongly is everyone addicted to their |
| Blackberries that using it is like using a drug. |
| Keith: [laughs] That's true. It's rare to see a working person |
| who isn't constantly checking his or her Blackberry for text |
| messages, emails, maybe even the weather. |
| Sadia: And, it’s kind of hard not to, I mean, it's just there... calling |
| you! [laughs] On the elevator, on the line in a store, |
| crossing the street. It doesn’t end! I'm not sure why, either -- I |
| don't think anyone's really sure why we’re so addicted to these things. |
| Keith: And, you know, this is a funny name for the Blackberry... once again, what is it? |
| Sadia: Crackberry. |
| Keith: Okay.But, actually, there isn't a funny name for the iPhone either, I |
| think people who have iPhones are really addicted to |
| their iPhones, just like people who are addicted to their Crackberries! |
| Sadia: Oh-- I think iPhone users might be worse-- but I think they actually |
| have a pretty good reason, and that’s like, the endless number of applications that iPhone users can get. |
| Keith: Well, that’s another Buzzword - apps. And this is important - can you explain what |
| an "app" is? |
| Sadia: Sure. “App” is short for, "application." |
| Keith: An application is a special program or a special |
| software. |
| Sadia: When the iPhone was released-- when it was |
| available to buy-- programmers got to work on |
| creating apps that would help users make the most of |
| their new iPhones. |
| Keith: Yeah, there are tons of apps. Apps for budgeting, GPS, games... |
| Sadia: Yeah, definitely. |
| Keith: Language learning products... |
| Sadia: That’s right, I forgot about that! |
| Keith: Apps for everything. |
| Sadia: And actually, all this app talk kinda makes me want to give up |
| my Crackberry! |
