Michael: Hi everyone, I'm Michael.
Alisha: And I'm Alisha.
Michael: In this lesson, you'll learn how to post and leave comments in English about New Yearโ€™s greetings. Chris celebrates the New Year, posts an image of it, and leaves this comment:
Alisha: "Happy New Year! It's time for the countdown soon!"
Michael: Listen to a reading of the post and the comments that follow.
DIALOGUE

Chris: "Happy New Year! It's time for the countdown soon!"

Jennifer: "Yet another wonderful year together. Let's hope next year will be even better!"
Alex: "What a terrible year, thank God that's over!"
Howard: "Do you have any New Year's resolutions?"
Rick: "I'm going to party my heart out!"

Alisha: (SLOW) "Happy New Year! It's time for the countdown soon!"

Michael: Let's break this down.
Alisha: First is the expression "Happy New Year!"
Michael: This is the greeting people use around New Year's Eve and the first few days of the New Year. This is called out, especially at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Day. Listen again.

Michael: Then comes the phrase...
Alisha: "It's time for the countdown soon!"
Michael: In the United States, New Year's Eve is celebrated with countdown parties and concerts; the most well-known celebration is the "ball drop" held at New York City's Times Square. Listen again.

Michael: Use this expression to show your curiosity for someone's goals in the new year.
