All right, welcome back to weekly words. My name is Alisha and today, we are going to talk about a holiday.
Today’s holiday is Star Wars Day.
What?! May the 4th. Okay Star Wars Day I assume. I guess this is correctly. This is an unofficial holiday that is celebrated on May 4th. Why on May 4th? It sounds like something that they say in the Star Wars movies, The Jedi Characters anyway. Well not just the Jedi Characters, the people on this side, I am just getting way too…In the movie, one of the phrases that is said a few times with a very positive nuance is May the 4th be with you. May 4th can be kind of rephrased to sound similar to this phrase. So on Star Wars Day, fellow Star Wars fans might say to each other, May the 4th be with you. It’s just a silly nerdy joke. It’s an unofficial holiday but so many people enjoy Star Wars that this is you know, it’s become very popular. In a sentence, let’s see. I think I am going to have a Star Wars Day party this year and you should join us. Yeah okay, so of course one of the key phrases for this is Star Wars. Star Wars is a very, very popular movie or series of movies really. There are currently at the time of making this video six Star Wars movies, three which are original, three were kind of made as prequels. Maybe you’ve seen them, I hope you’ve seen them. If not, you should check them out. They are very popular if you enjoy Sci-Fi, if you enjoy adventure movies. If you just enjoy a good hero story, you might enjoy Star Wars if you haven’t seen it already. In a sentence, Star Wars is one of my favorite movies and one of my favorite movie Trilogies.
Okay the next phrase wow is Luke Skywalker. Luke Skywalker is the name of the – main protagonist in the original Star Wars Films. So basically the story of Star Wars, the original Star Wars movies, the reluctant hero Luke Skywalker encounters a couple of droids robots on a desert planet and he is tasked with essentially a quest to help in saving the universe, saving the galaxy and so the movies surround his adventures and the people that he meets and his quest to do a number of things really. In a sentence, Luke Skywalker is the main character in the original Star Wars movies.
Next Dart Vader, Dart Vader is the original antagonist, the original main antagonist or the bad guy in the Star Wars movies. So you’ve probably seen this character in your country, I am guessing. He wears a dark helmet and a space balls. He wears a dark helmet and he has a long, black tape. He is really, really big. He speaks like he is breathing through a scuba mask. He is an iconic figure in movies and in media around the world I think. So in a sentence, Dart Vader is one of my favorite bad guys.
The next sentence, ah, the force. How do I explain the force? My father has a theory – dad if you are watching this, I hope that you remember you saying this. My father has a theory that the force is both the protagonist and the antagonist in the Star Wars films, think about that. Just think about that. So the force, the force refers to this mystical power that is present in the Star Wars films. So the good guys, the Jedis supposedly use the force for good. The bad guys in the movies use the force for evil things or to serve their own purposes. Special power that only certain people who are kind of in tune with the world around them can use. You have to have the right amount midichlorians in their blood. In a sentence, I wish I could use the force. I would use it to pick up heavy objects and reach things for me because I am very small.
The next sentence is end. Oh that’s the end. That’s all I get to do for Star Wars today? I am looking forward to the next Star Wars, the J.J. Abrams Star Wars movie. If you can’t have a lightsaber duel with your friends, you are just not hanging out with the right people, sorry Uncle Chris. All right, so those are some Star Wars day related vocabulary words. Check out Star Wars if you haven’t already. It’s a great movie. It’s a lot of fun and then you can join in the Star Wars Day celebration if you encounter one. Thanks very much for joining us this week May the 4th be with you. Bye.
