INTRODUCTION
How Do You Eat This Food?
There are many delicious dishes from around the world to try in the UK. We’ve already covered how to order them, but how about eating them? Sometimes it’s not always clear, so in this lesson we’ll learn how to ask: “How do you eat this?”
SURVIVAL PHRASES
It’s sometimes not obvious how to eat a meal, for example, what sauce to dip it into, what part to peel, what to eat it with, whether to use a knife and fork or eat something with your hands, which may be the case with pizza or fish and chips… In such cases you can simply ask: “How do you eat this?” You start the phrase with ‘how’ to ask for instructions, followed by the question ‘do you eat’, and finally the meal, which is referred to as ‘this’.
“How do you eat this?”
Traditionally, British food is not spicy. However, cuisine from countries such as India and Pakistan is becoming popular in the UK. These meals are often very spicy, but if you don’t like hot food, you can ask: “Is this spicy?” or “Is this hot?”
Okay, to close out this lesson we’d like you to practice what you’ve just learned. I’ll provide you with the phrase, and you’re responsible for shouting it out loud. You have a few seconds before I give you the answer. So good luck!
- How do you eat this?
- Is this spicy?
- Is this hot?
